April is Oral Cancer Awareness Month, and we here at Dr. Andrés R. Sánchez’s office are dedicated to helping you achieve optimal oral health. That’s why we want to inform you about some of the common oral cancer symptoms in Eden Prairie, MN. Nearly 49,000 Americans will be newly diagnosed with this form of cancer in 2016, which includes cancers of the mouth, the oropharynx (back of the mouth) and lips.

 

Symptoms to Watch For

  • Swelling on lips, gums, cheeks or other areas inside the mouth

  • White, red or speckled patches in the mouth

  • Persistent sores on face, neck or mouth that bleed easily and do not heal after two weeks
  • Unexplained numbness or tenderness in areas of face, mouth or neck
  • Sore throat or the feeling that something is caught in the back of the throat
  • Chronic sore throat, hoarseness or change in voice
  • Difficulty swallowing, chewing, speaking, or moving the jaw or tongue
  • Unexplained and chronic ear pain
  • Dramatic weight loss
  • Change in the way bite fits together
