Gum disease is a common problem, and close to 75 percent of Americans deal with some form of this condition. In its mildest form, gum disease is referred to as gingivitis, and you may only notice some redness, swelling and bleeding around the gums. Over time, deep pockets can form between the gums and the teeth and cause serious problems for your health.

Traditional surgery is available for those who require intense treatment for gum disease, but newer, more advanced dental technology has made it possible to get similar results from a less invasive procedure known as LANAP.

How It Works

The LANAP procedure involves a laser that operates on a wavelength that can distinguish healthy tissue from disease tissue. This means that the laser can remove the damaged tissue while leaving the healthy intact. There is no need for sutures, stitches or grafts that are necessary for traditional surgery. Some patients with conditions like HIV, diabetes or hemophilia are unable to undergo traditional surgery, and can still receive treatment with LANAP.
