Periodontal disease can cause a number of problems including tooth loss, tender gums, bright red gum tissue and constant bad breath. If you develop gum disease you need to schedule an appointment at the office of Dr. Bradley Ross in Miami, FL. Our periodontists offer the exceptional laser gum therapy treatment known as LANAP, which is an FDA-cleared procedure that is specifically designed to eliminate gum disease with as little pain as possible.

What Is LANAP?

LANAP is an alternative to traditional methods of removing inflamed gum tissue. Whereas in the past periodontists would need to cut directly into the surface of the gums to find the diseased tissue, periodontists today can instead use a specially-designed laser to accurately pinpoint the source of the inflammation. LANAP removes this tissue while leaving the healthy gums intact. It also does not have any negative impact on the jawbone. This procedure can typically be completed in one appointment that lasts two hours at most.

What Are the Benefits of LANAP?

With previous methods of treating gum disease, it would take two to six weeks for a patient to fully recover. However, with laser gum therapy, most patients fully recover within 24 hours. The procedure preserves more of the patient’s natural tooth structure and it can actually promote bone regeneration if anything was destroyed from the periodontal disease.

There is less pain, less bleeding, less swelling and less sensitivity associated with laser procedures. This makes it a preferable option for patients who tend to suffer from dental anxiety. While anesthetic is still available, many patients find they do not require it, meaning patients can often drive themselves home following the treatment.
