Gingival recession involves the gum tissue pulling away from the teeth, causing more of the tooth root to be exposed. Additionally, gaps or pockets form between the gums and teeth, which make for the perfect location for harmful bacteria to develop. If left untreated, teeth and gum tissue will become extremely damaged, and some people actually lose teeth. What Is PST?

The Pinhole Surgical Technique is a relatively new dental procedure that is minimally invasive. It involves creating a small pinhole in the mucosa apical wherever in the mouth the recession has occurred. Our dental professional will use specialized tools to move the “flap” of gum tissue in an apico-coronal direction.

Our experts then use collagen strips to hold the gum tissue in this new position. Patients can expect to see an immediate improvement in how their smiles look.

How Does It Compare to Other Treatments?

There are numerous advantages to using PST to treat gum recession. Prior procedures would require the dentist to actually cut into the gum tissue and then suture it into place. As a result, the recovery period would last much longer and there was far more discomfort associated with treating gingival recession.

Additionally, with other treatments, the professional needs to work on one area of the mouth at a time, so it would take a while to treat the entire mouth. However, PST allows the expert to work on the entire mouth at once, which means less time in the dentist’s chair for you.
