Gum recession is a common condition that can rapidly change the way you look. There are many different factors that can cause the gum recession, including gum disease, genetics and excessive vigorous tooth brushing. Regardless of the underlying causes contributing to your receding gum tissue, there are treatments available that can improve the way your gums look and feel. Dr. Tom McCawley is a skilled periodontist in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, who offers a revolutionary procedure called the Pinhole Surgical Technique™ (PST™) to treat receded gums with minimal discomfort.

Pinhole Surgical Technique Overview

PST is a cutting-edge type of gum surgery that treats gum recession without grafting tissue into the receded area. Dr. McCawley performs the procedure by making a tiny entry-point into the gum tissue with a specialized tool. He inserts small tools through the entry-point and uses them to carefully detach the gum tissue from the surface of the teeth. Once detached, the gum tissue can be gently moved downward or upward to cover up a greater portion of the teeth.

Pinhole Surgical Technique™ gum recession treatment causes minimal trauma to gum tissue, and the recovery period associated with the procedure is very quick when compared to gum grafting. In fact, most patients are able to resume normal activity within hours of the procedure. The results of PST are immediate and long-lasting. No scalpels are used to cut the gum tissue and no sutures are needed to seal off the area once treatment is complete. Due to its minimally invasive nature, PST is associated with minimal risk of excessive bleeding, infection or other complications.
