Do dental implants seem scary to you? If so, you are in good company. Many adults fear that receiving dental implants will be a painful and traumatic experience. Thankfully, most of these fears are unfounded and implant placement is not nearly as scary as it seems. If your dentist has recommended implants to replace your missing teeth, here are a few reasons why the procedure should not scare you.

Effective Anesthetics

You do not need to worry about being in pain during implant placement, since the area will be thoroughly numbed before the procedure even begins. In most cases, Dr. Jignesh Patel uses a local anesthetic to numb the area and ensure that you are completely comfortable throughout the treatment. However, if you are experiencing moderate to severe dental anxiety, other forms of sedation may be available to help relax you before and during the implant placement procedure.

Minimally Painful Recovery

Post-operative pain after implant placement is generally quite manageable. Most people remain comfortable by taking prescribed or over-the-counter pain medication for the first few days after treatment. Recovery happens in stages since the implant placement process does not occur all at once. First, a sturdy implant post is inserted into the jaw, then left alone to heal for a few months. Once healed, a natural-looking crown is attached permanently to the top of the implant and the area is given time to heal once again before full dental function is restored.

Long-Term Reliability

Most dental implants can last for 20 years or even longer, when placed by an experienced dentist and cared for properly by the patient. If you receive implants as an adult, you may never need to have them replaced during your lifetime. Other tooth replacement options are not able to offer such long-term reliability.

Improve Your Smile

Now that you know dental implants aren’t as scary as they seem, you may be eager to schedule a consultation and find out if you are a good candidate. To get started, contact Schaumburg Dental Studio and reserve an appointment with Dr. Patel.
