LANAP Laser Gum Disease Treatment

Gum disease is one of the most common diseases in the United States and affects more than 80 percent of adults. The difficult thing is that so many people fear treatment that they may avoid it completely, and when left untreated this disease can lead to loss of bone, receding gums and eventually tooth loss. As dental technology has advanced, so has treatment for gum disease, and LANAP is an effective way to deal with this damaging disease.

How Does It Work?

Patients are given local anesthesia and the periodontist inserts a tiny laser fiber between the gums and the teeth. This allows for disease and infection to be removed without cutting away the healthy gum tissue. Tartar and plaque are removed from the tooth roots and the laser then seals the pocket with a firm, stable fibrin blood clot.
